photo

  One of the 'veterans'...

Charles Medhurst (76) running his last Marathon this year, has been a member of Christ Church, Greenwich, all his life. Charles (above) was baptised there. He was a pupil at Christ Church School and a choir boy. He married Iris there 52 years ago and has been Sunday school teacher, Scout leader, churchwarden and treasurer. In 1988 at the age of 62 Charles who had never run further than the end of the road decided to run the marathon for church funds. He has now completed 14 raising £35,000 - for Christ Church Forum, 'Fight for Sight' and several small charities.

  ...one of the youngest...

Phil Wicks (above), just 18, finished his first ever Marathon in an impressive time of just 3 hours 24 minutes. Phil, an A level student at Glyn School, is a Communion Steward at Christ Church with St Philip, Worcester Park He said the atmosphere and encouragement of the crowds helped him keep going. He was raising money for the Meningitis Research Foundation. Phil suffered from the illness as a young child and hopes to raise over £1,200.

  ...plus an archdeacon...

The Ven. Christine Hardman, Archdeacon of Lewisham, finished the course in 4hrs 53 minutes despite a damaged knee and back muscle spasms needing physio. Her husband, Roger, (4hrs 23 mins) finished 'with a smile on his face'. Not only did he beat wife Christine who led him in two years ago - but he was overtaken by TV Groundforce's, Charlie Dimmock just before the finish!

...plus lots more...
