'The Bridge' reaches the places others can't!

photo

Even in retirement Bishop Wilfred, former Bishop of Croydon, is still keeping in touch with the Diocese! Damp and cold Croydon has been left behind for sunny Barbados - mid 80's in January - but The Bridge still reaches the Wood household!

Our 'special correspondent' Michael Buckley reports:

Bishop Wilfred now walks five minutes to a lovely local beach to indulge regularly in the Caribbean waters along with a few other local people. It really is a lovely spot from which Bishop Wilfred and Ina send their greetings and a warm welcome to any others from Southwark, visiting the island on holiday - just head for Oistins a few miles from the Airport.

Go on a Friday and in the evening enjoy a fantastic spread of fresh fish caught that day, cooked to order at beach stalls, and sit in the moonlight on the beach and just enjoy it and the ambience! Talking to Bishop Wilfred and Ina shows a different side to the island, quite different to the 'All In' hotels and beach resorts just a few miles further down the coast.

Some miles to the North is Codrington College, as with everying else on the island, close to cheap bus routes, and where a young Wilfred commenced his training for the Ministry. Bishop Wilfred thinks he is probably the only retired Bishop on the Island as, traditionally, Bishops retired to England, not the other way round!

For now he is taking a well earned rest, though he did preach at a local service before Christmas, and rumour has it that he is shortly to preside at the marriage of a relative. Michael and Sheila Buckley (seen in the photo above with Bishop Wilfred and Ina), were on holiday in Barbados and 'dropped in' on the Woods.
