Wendy S. Robins meets Dean Pusey, the new Diocesan Youth Adviser with

Enthusiasm for Christ

What ever else might be said about Dean Pusey, the new Diocesan Youth Adviser and Children and Youth Adviser for the Woolwich Area, no one could accuse him of lacking enthusiasm.

Enthusiasm for most things, as far as I could see. But, most especially for Jesus Christ, whom he describes as his 'all in all' - and for sharing that enthusiasm with young people.

Dean is a Peckham lad who attended the Baptist Church on Rye Lane as a youngster. He now lives outside of the Diocese, but says that as his Christian formation happened in the Woolwich Area he'd like to contribute something to the Diocese - and no doubt he will. Dean says, 'I hope to enable young people to be passionate about their faith and to encourage those who accompany them in their journey. I want young people to be citizens in the church and the wider community and to be recognised as such, and I want the fruit of the time and work invested in young people to last'.

Lecturer and youth worker

Most recently he has been a part-time lecturer and tutor on the Oasis Trust Youth Ministry Course. He is also a volunteer youth worker with his local Anglican church in Guildford Diocese and brings a wealth of practical experience as well as a degree in theology.

As he begins his work in Southwark he wants to listen to try to identify the key issues and priorities for today's young people - and he aims to make sure that these views are heard in the arenas which can help to deliver change.

Married to Tracey with a seven-month-old daughter, Lillian, Dean enjoys music, particularly soul, travelling and clearly just loves finding out about people. He has a formidable memory for names and details so don't tell him anything you don't want him to remember!

Dean will work with Diane Craven, Diocesan Children's Adviser and Kingston Area Children and Youth Adviser. They both work with the Children and Youth Policy Group chaired by Ven. Nick Baines, Archdeacon of Wandsworth.

Based at Trinity House, Dean asks that anyone undertaking children's work in the Woolwich Area, or youth work anywhere in the Diocese, make themselves known to him (0207 939 9416 or 07905 884207 - text and mobile) or e-mail dean.pusey@southwark.anglican.org I feel certain it will be well worth it!
