Breaking the cycle of re-offending
Following a recent visit Paul Cavadino, the Chief Executive of NACRO, the crime
reduction charity, has endorsed the work being done by Stepping Stones, at its
three homes in south London.
Stepping
Stones provides accommodation and help in rebuilding the lives of ex-prisoners
who have become Christians while in prison. It works in partnership with two
local churches and in close co-operation with the Probation Service, the
Police, Prison Chaplains, Prison Fellowship and primary health care
providers.
"The
right support after release from prison can break the cycle of re-offending,"
said Mr Cavadino. "Even men with serious offending backgrounds have been
resettled successfully. Stepping Stones is a model of integration into the
community."
Chaplain General
William
Noblett, the prison service Chaplain General, who also visited Stepping Stones
recently praised the support given by St Marks, Battersea
Rise, and the New
Life Christian Centre in Croydon, to the men in Stepping Stones
homes.
The
Executive Director of Stepping Stones Trust, Bob Kimmerling, said "Jesus said
that whatever we do for the least of our brethren, we do for Him. It is His
love that constrains us to reach out to those in prison that society would
largely want us to forget."
