Southwark Cathedral is ...
The oldest Gothic building in London and a superb example of
medieval architecture. It is a place where countless generations have prayed and
worshipped and which has witnessed much of English history. It has welcomed some of our
greatest poets and dramatists. Having survived many disasters, it remains a building of
beauty and dignity in this historic but fast-changing neighbourhood.
In these days, preserving an ancient building is costly and
we can achieve little without a great deal of voluntary service and money.
Why join the Friends?
- Because you appreciate the Cathedral
- as a beautiful and historic building
- as a place that hosts many concerts, dramatic productions and

- You want to make your personal contribution in money and/or
service

way
