Give to all mothers and fathers your blessing
Give them wisdom to guide, tolerance to understand and love to enfold those you have entrusted to their care.

Welcome to our website and to the Mothers’ Union in South London and East Surrey.

It has been said in the past that the Mothers’ Union is the best kept secret in the Anglican Church – but we are changing that here in Southwark Diocese! Still there are many people who do not realise just what we do. The Mothers’ Union is a Christian organisation that is concerned with all aspects of marriage and family life.

Worldwide, there are over 3.6 million members. Here in Southwark Diocese, we have around 2,000 members: men, women, single, married and divorced. Our organisation is centred on prayer and fellowship combined with taking part in projects relevant to where our members live, supporting international campaigns and fundraising.

Mothers’ Union worldwide is a pro-active organisation. We employ over 300 workers from local communities around the world who develop and encourage self-help projects, provide education on health care and run training seminars for local Mothers’ Union members and the wider community.

Mothers’ Union is involved in campaigning and lobbying on a number of issues such as parental rights, international debt and child poverty. We work in partnership with various organisations including the United Nations and other ecumenical groups. Here in Southwark Diocese, members are often consulted and asked for views on various government White Papers relevant to aspects of family life.

Membership of the Mothers’ Union is open to all who have been baptised, affirm their belief in the Aim and Objects of the Mothers’ Union and pay a subscription to Mothers’ Union funds. We have a diocesan newsletter issued three times a year called “Southwark News”.
