Perry Hill
The church was demolished during 1999 due to severe structural problems. A new church is being built on the same site. Built: 1878 - 80 The church was situated on a peninsula site at the corner of Vancouver Road and Woolstone Road. It was designed by William Coppard Banks and was consecrated in 1880. The church was built in an embellished 14th Century English Gothic style. The church featured a north east tower (heightened in 1887), polygonal chancel, apsidal western baptistery and elaborate western rose window with stained glass by Henry Holida (now in store). The accommodation comprised nave, north and south aisles, western baptistery, north west and south west porches, chancel, organ chamber, choir vestry, clergy vestry, toilet and tower rooms. The exterior walls were constructed in Kentish ragstone with Bath stone dressings. The main roofs were pitched and covered in blue/grey Welsh slate. |
