Roundshaw
The church was built during 1980/81 by Wickens & Son Ltd to the design of Pickford & Rose (Chartered Architects) and dedicated on 3 October 1981 by the Bishop of Woolwich, the Rt Revd Michael Marshall. The church building shown above has now been demolished and was replaced by a new church which the Bishop of Southwark rededicated on 25 January 2003 (see press release). It is known for the cross made from an aircraft propeller which was re-erected on the new church. Why the propeller? because the estate is built on the old Croydon aerodrome famous in the second world war and as the first international airport in the world. |
