The Role of an
Archdeaconry SPA
Within each Archdeaconry an elected
SPA has responsibility for the pastoral care and support of local
SPAs. This involves:
- Being a first point of contact
for SPAs who want to share their concerns, or want help in
finding appropriate in-service training or support.
- Sending out and receiving SPA
annual review forms and following up any issues that arise.
- With the Archdeacon, setting up
an annual meeting of SPAs in the Archdeaconry.
- Arranging other gatherings of
SPAs in the Archdeaconry for mutual support or in-service
training (with the help of the Archdeacon, or Co-ordinator of
Training where appropriate).
- Making initial contact with SPAs
in training from the Archdeaconry to introduce them to the local
network.
- Being a member of the SPA
Council and raising the concerns, views and needs of local SPAs
- Where appropriate, acting as a
mediator between SPAs, their incumbents or agencies, and the SPA
Council (e.g. in drawing up a new SPA Agreement)
- Passing on information about
retirements, sabbaticals or changes in circumstances for SPAs to
the SPA Council
- Maintaining a good working
relationship with the Archdeacon in matters concerning SPAs in
the Archdeaconry.
Archdeaconry SPAs are elected by
SPAs within the Archdeaconry for a 3-year term. They may be
re-elected for a second term.
