Course intended for:
Clergy who are interested in running the Growing Leaders
Course. Growing Leaders is the latest practical resource from
CPAS. Over a year, its unique mix of teaching, mentoring and practical
application focuses on: leadership rooted in Christ, deepening
commitment to long-term service and developing essential skills for
the task.
Content of course:
To consider both the principles underlying GL as well as the
practicalities of how to set up a course.
Aims:
To equip and inform Clergy who are interested in running the Growing
Leaders Programme. To help Clergy launch the Growing Leaders Programme
in the Local Parish setting.
Learning objectives of course:
By the end of the session participants will have clearer understanding
of the underlying principals of Growing Leaders and be confident in
running the programme in the Parish.

Content of Course:
An introduction to assertive behaviour
Aims:
To enable verbal and non verbal communication skills of people
involved in Christian ministry
Learning objectives of course:
By the end of the course, participants will be able to :
- Identify and understand the roots of
self esteem and link this to passive, aggressive and assertive
behaviour (Life in all its fullness)
- Understand their right to make
requests (Ask and you will receive)
- Refuse or agree with other people
(Let your nay be nay)
- Think about anger (Be angry but sin
not)
- Set God goals (I know the plans I
have for you)
Teaching methods:
Input from facilitator, discussion, life situation assessment and
rehearsal, non performance and non confrontational, experiential drama
exercises, reflective processing and prayer

An introduction to Legitimate Leadership a generic model of leadership
based on the quality of the relationship between leader and follower.
Aims:
The workshop seeks to explain:
If I am a leader:
- Who are my followers?
- Why do people follow me?
- What have I to offer?
- How do I remain true to my
followers?
- How can I help people fulfil their
purpose?
- Why might people turn their backs?
Learning objectives of course:
To provide the opportunity for individuals to consider the
appropriateness of the Legitimate Leadership Model for their own
leadership roles.

1. The life of the volunteer
2. Recruiting, nurturing and equipping volunteers in the life of the
church.
3. Legal responsibilities
Aims:
To equip clergy with a better understanding of the place of the
volunteer in the life of the church and the role that they play in
nurturing and sustaining them in their roles.
Learning objectives of course:
By the end of the session participants will have reflected on what it
means to be a volunteer and learned or revisited some skills and
strategies for the better management of volunteers in the life of the
local church.
Teaching methods:
1. Lecture, informal and plenary discussion
2. Handouts provided on the day
Assessing Course’s Effectiveness:
Checking participants’ assumptions and expectations at the start
of the course and revisiting those at the end to see how they have
been met.
